This strategic plan has been formulated following an extensive investigation over several
months of the environments, both internal and external, in which Barnardo’s operates in
Ireland. The process has included meetings with staff groups where views have been
recorded, circulation of material and receipt of submissions from individuals and groups.
We have also consulted with a substantial number of individuals and bodies in the external
environment. These have included senior personnel in Government Departments, health
boards and other statutory bodies, individual commentators, voluntary organisations,
business, technology, media and public relations personnel.
The willingness with which colleagues, both internally and externally, shared their expertise,
ideas and views has been of great assistance to us in the preparation of this plan. Although
some contributions may be more in evidence than others in the content of the plan, all have
served to provide a framework in identifying a future strategic direction for Barnardo’s, and
are gratefully acknowledged.
