Item Early Years eNews: Issue 5(Barnardos, 2017) BarnardosThe newly commenced provisions of the Children First Act, including mandated reporting, came into effect on 11th December and this will impact all those working with children. In Barnardos, we are busy updating our training programmes to reflect these changes and our new programmes will be available from mid-January 2018. We have produced a free parent's booklet on Child Protection and will have a handbook for early years educators available early 2018.Item Early Years eNews: Issue 4(Barnardos, 2017) BarnardosThe Affordable Childcare Scheme has been in the news in the past couple of weeks, with concerns that that just 60% of early years settings in Ireland have registered for the Scheme. The announcement by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar that the creation of more affordable childcare is a priority for Government must be welcomed. We must remember though that quality should also be top of the agenda, children have a right to quality care and education that supports their wellbeing, learning and development. In this issue of Early years eNews we bring you news of a review by the Dept of Children and Youth Affairs into the cost of delivering quality childcare, the findings of which will impact on future Government investment.
